I spent part of today updating our Trello board to account for everything that went on hold during the Pandemic. Our yard sale? Is moved from May to July. Cleaning out the garage (which we started and completed 20%) is moved form April to June. It feels good to see the momentum returning.
I sold my first item on Facebook Marketplace! That has motivated me to post some more toys. The challenge I have is between a driving desire to just get rid of everything, and the interest in getting some money to help support the move.
I read a recommendation somewhere: the time leading up to the move should be spent purging and preparing your house to sell. Getting the house ready to sell means painting, repairs, and other activities. I have one area of my yard that I need to do something with. I read that a patio has an 80% return on investment when the house sells, so, I'm hoping to take advantage of some out of work masons and get a deal. I am waiting on a price and then I'll decide what to do. It is difficult because I don't want to put a lot of money into the house, but something needs to be done, and a patio would be the perfect something.
One item on our list for April was to find a real estate agent. I don't want to say who it is because I don't know if they are any good yet. They specialize in moving people from out-of-state to Florida, and they come highly recommended by people who made the move.
I believe there is a tremendous opportunity to help people move to Florida. Hundreds of thousands of families make the move every year. They all need housing, doctors, schools, jobs, and more. I was looking for someone who had experience with the complete picture, and I believe I found that person. The initial contact with the agent seemed positive and she will be sending me a roadmap that will take us through the next 424 days. We will be meeting with her when we go to Florida in August.
That is the update for today! Progress feels very good.
